A large-scale project, the redevelopment of Peel Street aims to highlight an important axis of downtown Montreal connecting the Lachine Canal to Mount Royal. Designed by the City of Montreal, the project is divided into four sections and includes widening of sidewalks, new tree planting, the addition of unique tree grates, a bike path, and a commemorative route. civiliti has been contributing to the Peel project since 2017 through various mandates and phases of the project.
civiliti first produced the plans and specifications and provided construction supervision from 2017 to 2019 for phase D, the area between Avenue des Pins and Sherbrooke Street. At its northern end, this section of Peel Street is distinguished by its significant slope and its pathway leading to an important access point to Mount Royal Park.
Since 2021, civiliti has been involved in finalizing the definitive design and specifications for phase C. This section, between Sherbrooke Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard, is characterized by an active commercial activity and the presence of the Dorchester Square heritage site. This section includes the integration of a cycling link that connects the Réseau Express Vélo, built south of René-Lévesque, to the Maisonneuve bike path. Work on phase C has not yet begun.
Finally, the Peel project includes the commemorative route Nos récits, notre voie created in collaboration with the Kahnawake First Nations. The The route is punctuated by thematic stations marked by duos of spherical bronze sculptures. These sculptures each display unique artwork celebrating the dialogue between indigenous and non-indigenous cultures. civiliti actively contributed to this project, while the creation and execution of the sculptures were carried out by artists MC Snow and Kyra Revenko.
