The Quebec Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the CCNQ and Quebec City, has drawn up a master plan for the redevelopment of the entrance to the national capital, along the rights-of-way of autoroutes 20 and 73, on both the Lévis and Quebec City sides, including the Pierre Laporte bridge. The conceptual name of the defined right-of-way is the “High-Speed Unifying Line”.
In addition to functionality and safety, one of the main objectives of the stakeholders is to give the entrance to the Quebec National Capital Region a distinctive and recognizable landscape and architectural signature. With this in mind, civiliti’s mandate was to draw up an architectural guide for the treatment of a dozen overhead structures spanning the motorway corridor.
The conceptual approach to the architectural treatment and lighting of the structures aims to animate the structures with a dynamic effect that contributes to the overall kinetic experience of the corridor. Following a documented analysis of the landscape, the mandate defined a graphical and luminous language as well as architectural components applicable to all structures, regardless of the type of structure or future work to be carried out (reconstruction or refurbishment). The treatment of the Laurier-Duplessis ramp was the first application of the guide.
