The Bureau du Mont-Royal, in close collaboration with the City of Montreal’s transportation department, undertook an update of Mount Royal’s accessibility assessment in 2018. The civiliti team was commissioned to complete the diagnosis using data, information and summaries from the preliminary studies carried out by the city.
The study covers the entire Mount Royal Heritage Site, a vast territory made up of parks and green spaces, including Mount Royal Park, large institutional properties and residential areas. It deals first with accessibility on the overall scale of the site, then by sector and by mode of travel. The main challenges that emerge from the analysis can be broken down into concrete actions: establishing a hierarchy of entrances; improving accessibility for all by making entrances and itineraries easier to understand; and extending the discovery experience to the entire heritage site. The sum of these actions is designed to enhance the site’s multitude and diversity of potential landscape experiences. The study is an important step for the Ville de Montréal in developing an updated vision of accessibility to Mount Royal.
