Planning mandate completed
As part of its comprehensive downtown revitalization initiative, the City of Sherbrooke aims to transform the Grandes-Fourches North sector into a vibrant, innovative, inclusive, and livable neighbourhood. Located in the heart of one of the city’s oldest districts, the project seeks to generate lasting social, cultural, and economic benefits for the downtown core. These proposed transformations are part of a broader urban renewal effort initiated by the relocation of the bridge spanning the Magog River. Rich in history and shaped by strong economic activity over the past century, the area now presents a unique opportunity to rebuild an urban ecosystem that is in harmony with the site’s natural and cultural heritage.
Civiliti’s urban design mandate is to address the sector’s challenges and opportunities through a comprehensive public realm master plan that is both visionary and structurally coherent, providing a clear overall vision and strategic design directions for this ambitious project. The lands located in the immediate vicinity of the river confluence present geotechnical constraints, and part of the redevelopment area lies within a floodplain. These site conditions require a resilient design approach, including riverbank renaturalization, extensive tree planting, terraced topography, and the integration of permeable infrastructure.
