In 2018, the Borough of Ville-Marie began preparing the Programme particulier d’urbanisme (PPU) for the Faubourgs district, between Atateken Street and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, an unstructured area undergoing profound change with the redevelopment of the Radio-Canada site and the departure of Molson. civiliti was commissioned to carry out a detailed land-use planning study integrating the reconfiguration of the Ville-Marie expressway into an urban boulevard. The study will guide the implementation of the PPU, and will enable the requalification of this sector to be part of an innovative development vision that aspires to the development of sustainable urban environments.

The proposal is based on the return of the historic urban grid to weave together two parts of the city, and on an ambitious program of public spaces incorporating innovative approaches such as a meeting zone, extensive planting and ecological stormwater management. Safety, walkability, mixed uses, optimal development density and the creation of complete living environments are also at the heart of detailed planning. Based on the principles of sustainable, resilient urban planning and citizen participation, the proposal aims to enhance the area’s strong urban, landscape and heritage features, while reconnecting the area to the river.
