The design of Guido-Nincheri Park is part of a wider project to transform the Olympic Stadium and Espace pour la vie area. Numerous projects aim to consolidate this leading metropolitan area and make it an even more integrated urban and tourist destination, and above all more user-friendly in terms of urban planning. The creation of the park follows the pedestrianization of the last stretch of Rachel Street, a move that also ensures the safety of the Pie IX / Sherbrooke East intersection.
Inspired by the theme of life, the park’s organic forms recall the elements essential to the growth of a large tree: cells, light, water and movement. On the ground, curbs, gutters and furniture, as well as colorful graphics, evoke the lines of a symbolic trunk and the path of sap. At night, low-angled lighting emphasizes the route, which converges on nodes, furniture hubs and social gathering places. A work by artist Jean-Robert Drouillard, a gift from the City of Quebec to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montreal, is integrated into the heart of the park. At the crossroads of Sherbrooke and Rachel streets, the new, poetic and evocative space is embraced by strollers, cyclists and residents alike.
